Affiliate Marketing What Does This Mean? An Affiliate is described as “a part of a company” in other words you become part of someone’s company, very similar to a commissioned sales person. You are not employed by the company you do however have the rights to sell that companies product. Now Marketing is how you achieve those sales. There have always been people who were sales people and in their ranks there have always been super sales people. Now with the coming of the Internet it is possible to join that elite force.

These super sales people have always been very well paid and they worked alone, not as a team as part of a regular sales department. With the advent of the Internet you, if you wish, have the opportunity to join them.

How I hear many of you ask! You may have become affiliates to some companies and made an effort to generate sales. I know that I did when I started and all I managed to do was lose money. How do you make affiliate marketing a success? You do it with a specific plan of action. You do not join any affiliate program you very carefully select, after much research , the right program for the right moment in time.

Top sales people spend a great deal of time in research to find the right products and to find the right people who would be desperate to receive the information on where they could purchase it. So you first observation should be “What are people desperate for”.

Then you search for the best product to fulfill that demand. That is when you become a super affiliate.

You are probably saying “I know all that” it is how you put these steps into practice you want to know isn’t it? As this is a short article I shall limit my comments to the Internet steps. First search engines play a very important and central role in Internet Affiliate Marketing. Search engines can be responsible for the introduction of your sales message to hundreds even thousands of people searching for specific information on what they are interested in.

When someone searched for information, the search engine goes through all the indexed pages and presents the searcher with all the web sites that match the written phrase. The pages are ranked with the highest ranking coming first.

It will be very rare for anyone to search the results of pages ranked 10 or more, indeed most will stop at the first page of results. There are a number of search engines and people serious about the information they are searching for will check out six or seven of these engines, Google.com being one of them.

The roles of the old time sales person and the Internet marketer have reversed. The old time person would have known who to contact to generate sales now the person seeking comes to them through the search engines.

It has been calculated that 90% of sales generated through the Internet comes from search engines like Google, Yahoo, MSN. The other 10% comes from articles, ezine advertising, forums, etc.

To make affiliate marketing a success for you it is necessary to be able to select the keywords that your target market are using and to build your business around them rather than simply putting an advertisement in the local paper and hoping someone will read it.
